Welcome to UW Graduate Studies

The UW has been awarding graduate degrees since 1885.  Since 1974, UW has led the nation’s public universities in competing for federal research and training grants. In 2000, the UW was first among public and second among all universities, public and private, in federal research awards. Currently, we have over 10,000 graduate students enrolled at all 3 campuses pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in 114 graduate degree granting units.

The University of Washington also values diversity in its broadest context, reaching out to underrepresented individuals to recognize what they have to offer the community. In addition, international applicants, immigrants and permanent residents constitute an important segment of our population. Diversity within the student body not only benefits the individual but enhances the educational experience for everyone.
