Finding Outside Funding
Welcome to the Office of Fellowships and
Assistantships' online resources page. Chances are you came across this page
hoping to find funding for school. We're here to help you out! We invite you to view our
fellowship calendar, our archive of fellowship newsletters, browse through our hotlist of
foundations and other organizations, or look through a list of funding reference books at
the UW libraries. The Office of
Fellowships and Assistantships puts out several publications of interest to those
looking for funding.
- If you are a University of Washington
Student, you may wish to make use of our
bibliography of funding information resources held in the University
of Washington libraries. If you are not yet a University of
Washington student, some of these books will be available in your local
public or college library.
- As the Internet becomes an increasingly
important medium for communication, government agencies, corporations,
public and private foundations are making information available on their
fellowship and grant programs, providing e-mail contact links, and some
even providing fellowship applications on-line. We recommend you view our
list of funding web sites for current program information.
-
The Graduate
School also helps to fund the
Grant and Funding Information Service located in the Reference
Section of Suzzallo Library. Check the website to see when the
staff is available for consultation . GFIS has several free
classes each quarter to teach University of Washington students and
staff how to use the print and web resources available, including the
funding databases to which the University subscribes.

Work Study:
Graduate students who are eligible for the need-based college work study program may
qualify for work study graduate assistantships in teaching or research. Students must
submit financial aid applications to the Office of Student Financial Aid by the February
28 deadline to be considered for these positions. Information is available from the Office
of Student Financial Aid and at the Work
Study Website.
Employment:
Please be sure to visit the collection of resources on the
Resources for Students Page of the Graduate
School website, where we have collected a variety of information sources.
The campus offers other job opportunities for graduate students. Students may apply
directly to the Chairperson of the department in which they hope to work or to the Student
Employment Office. Students seeking part-time employment must be enrolled and on campus
before they may obtain jobs.
Advisory positions in University residence halls paying room and board are available
for single graduate students, both men and women. Additional information may be obtained
from the Director of Residence Halls Programs, 301 Schmitz.
Spouses of married students also may apply for regular full- and part-time University
employment. These positions cover a wide range of occupations and offer pay comparable to
the prevailing salaries in the community. Some carry such fringe benefits as vacations,
sick leave, and opportunities to enroll in University courses. Inquiries may be directed
to the Staff Employment Office, 1320 Northeast Campus Parkway, Seattle.
