Thesis/Dissertation Preliminary Review

A preliminary review of your thesis/dissertation is strongly recommended to prevent delays from occurring when you submit the final thesis/dissertation and at the point of graduation.

The only pages reviewed are the un-numbered pages listed below.  Examples of these pages should follow the guidelines provided in the Policy and Style Manual.  Though the entire document is no longer reviewed, you are encouraged to continue referring to the Policy and Style Manual for details and assistance in preparing and formatting your document.  These pages should be checked BEFORE you collect committee signatures.

  • Copyright Page (not required for Master’s students; optional for doctoral dissertations)
  • Title Page
  • Signature Page
  • Quote Slip (choose correctly from options in Policy and Style Manual)
  • Abstract (optional for Master’s students)

A preliminary review does not require an appointment. There are two ways to have a preliminary review:

1. You may drop off your pages in the Graduate School, Room G-1, Communications Building, M-F, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Please completed the purple drop off slip with your contact information. Your pages will be returned to you within 1-3 working days and you will receive an email at your UW email account when it is ready for pick-up.

2. You may drop-in for an immediate review while you wait. This service is only available daily between the hours of 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.

The Graduate School will only review the above noted pages, but we continue to direct students to the Policy and Style Manual for guidelines and details.
